Book cover: Breaking the Dependency Cycle by Joanna Rose Samudio

A quiet truth

You don’t mind helping. You just wonder when it will be your turn.

Every payday, someone needs something. Bills. Tuition. Medicine. A family emergency. Someone lost their job. Someone needs help again.

And somehow, everyone knows who to call.

You love your family. You want to help. But somewhere underneath, maybe you’ve quietly asked yourself: “Will this ever end?”

Maybe you’ve postponed your own dreams. Maybe you’ve delayed saving for your future. Maybe you’ve become so used to being the responsible one that choosing yourself feels selfish.

You’re not a bad son, daughter, sibling, or parent for feeling this way. You may simply be carrying a responsibility that was never meant to be yours alone.

Look inside

The goal isn’t to love less. It’s to help more wisely.

Healthy support should build strength, confidence, responsibility, and independence, not create lifelong dependence. That’s where the Dependency Cycle begins.

About the author

I wrote Breaking the Dependency Cycle for the breadwinner who has spent years being strong for everyone else.

This book grew from my own reflections on responsibility, sacrifice, family expectations, and the realization that love alone isn’t always enough. Sometimes love also needs wisdom, boundaries, communication, and preparation.

I’m a Filipino writer, hospitality professional, and longtime breadwinner. For years I supported my family while working both in the Philippines and overseas, and I know the quiet weight of postponing your own dreams because love seemed to mean always saying yes.

My hope is simple: no Filipino breadwinner should have to choose between honoring the people they love and building a future of their own.
